Complete a Framework Document

Turn a bracketed outline into a finished document

Generating directly sometimes produces a framework — a reusable outline with instruction-style placeholders like [ADD DETAIL] or [YOUR ACHIEVEMENT] — rather than a fully personalized document. This happens when there is not yet enough detail in the profile to write those sections confidently. The fix is a short guided chat, not starting over.

Steps

  1. Open the document. If it has placeholders, the Refine button expands into two options: "Refine the framework" or "Complete it with a guided chat."
  2. Choose "Complete it with a guided chat."
  3. Answer the questions it asks — it only asks about the specific gaps left in the outline, one at a time.
  4. As you answer, it tracks roughly how many topics are left, and a Save & Generate style action becomes available once everything is covered.
  5. Click through to generate the finished document with your answers filling in every placeholder.

Note: Real citation markers like [1] are never mistaken for a placeholder — only instruction-style brackets (things like [TO BE ADDED], [INSERT], or [SPECIFY]) trigger this flow.

What you'll see

Your conversation is saved as you go, so if you close the tab partway through, you can come back and pick up where you left off. The result replaces the framework in place, keeping the earlier draft in version history.
