Refine a Document

After a document is generated, you do not have to regenerate it from scratch to make changes — you can ask for specific edits directly.

Steps

1. Open the generated document and click Refine.
2. Describe what you want changed — tone, length, emphasis, or anything specific you want added or removed.
3. OppPaths produces an updated version based on your request.
4. Compare versions any time using the document's version history — nothing is lost when you refine.

Refining through guided chat

For bigger changes, you can also open the document in guided chat, which can rewrite sections or complete a framework outline. It always stays grounded in your profile and scholarship requirements and never invents facts, the same as the original generation.

Tip: Small, specific requests work best — "make the second paragraph more concrete about my research project" gets a better result than "make it better."

What you'll see

Each refinement creates a new version you can compare side by side with the previous draft, so you can always go back if an earlier version was closer to what you wanted.
